There aren’t many press releases that give Petrolblog an excuse to publish a couple of photographs of a Subaru Justy 4WD, so we’re grabbing the opportunity while we can.
More importantly, Subaru UK has launched an initiative that could be useful to a significant chunk of the Petrolblog community.
Men aged 50 and over visiting one of Subaru UK’s 54 showrooms can pick up a free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test kit. The tests are being funded by Subaru UK and supplied by Selph, a doctor-led medical home testing company.
The boxed kits can be collected discreetly from participating dealerships and used at home. They involve a pin-prick blood test, which is then posted to an accredited lab. Results are often available the following day and are accompanied by a doctor’s report explaining what the PSA level means and whether further medical advice might be required.
It’s important to note that a PSA test cannot diagnose prostate cancer. Raised PSA levels can have several causes, while prostate cancer can sometimes be present without a raised PSA reading. The test can, however, identify people who may benefit from further investigation.
For that reason, anyone considering a test is advised to read about its benefits and limitations before deciding whether to take one. Selph has published a guide at selph.co.uk/psa-guide.
Subaru UK managing director Lorraine Bishton says that the average new-car buyer in Britain is over 50, making its dealer network a potentially useful way of reaching men who might otherwise put off arranging a test.
She added: “Making kits available in our dealerships is an easy way to pick up a test discreetly, for men who may consider themselves at risk or are reluctant to make a testing appointment.”
The free PSA test kits are available through Subaru UK’s 54-strong sales dealer network from 26 August. Petrolblog can’t promise that you’ll spot an old Justy in the car park, but you might see a Legacy or two.
