The convoy of tat is going Dutch to raise money for Refuge
EMWalhalla 2025 will soon be upon us – and Petrolblog is hoping to be there. In case you're not familiar with the event, it's essentially the Dutch equivalent of the Festival of the Unexceptional. Whisper this, but it actually looks better. Shhh!
The organisers call it ‘heaven for unknown, undesired and under-appreciated cars’, so it's like Petrolblog in event form. Check out the homepage of the website for a quick flavour of the event – then get ready to book a ferry or a trip through the tunnel under the sea.
If you were paying attention in 2024, you'll know that friend of the blog Alex Wakefield drove to the event in a Perodua Nippa. Yes, really. The Nippa was part of a convoy of tat, the other cars being a Rover 620ti, Škoda Felicia, Citroën XM and Lexus LS400. You can read about his adventures here (and also enjoy a video courtesy of ChodCam).
Alex and the other members of Team EMWalhalla are using this year's convoy to raise money for Refuge, a charity that provides expert, specialist support to women and children fleeing domestic abuse. At the time of writing, they had raised £720 of a £1000 target, so let's get them over the line.
As per the JustGiving page: ‘Our team of drivers will be travelling from all parts of the UK to Raamsdonksveer in The Netherlands, between 9-11 May 2025. Hopefully, we will be travelling back home again, but this is by no means assured.
‘Each driver will be behind the wheel of a vehicle that is either past its sell by date, unsuited to modern traffic conditions, cranky, crusty, uncomfortable or downright rubbish. Most of them will be all of the above.
‘We are attending the fabulous EMWalhalla event; a gathering of automotive rejects from across Europe. Representing the UK community of motoring flotsam, our team are raising awareness of the important work done by Refuge to help those in need of their expertise.
‘Thank you for supporting Refuge and cheering us on through the UK, France, Belgium and The Netherlands (and back…)’
