Going Dutch: Perodua Nippa leads a convoy of tat to EMWalhalla

Alex Wakefield describes EMWalhalla as “a true heaven for lovers of the unloved”, so it should come as no surprise to discover that Petrolblog is planning a trip to the event in 2025.

Actually, it isn't an event. Organiser Elk Merk Waardig would prefer to call it “a field day for the unloved ones on our roads”; those “misfitting motors whose owners are constantly having to defend their choices”. In other words, it's a very Petrolbloggy event (sorry, field day).

Indeed, the list of cars mentioned on the website reads like a 'who's who' of Petrolblog: Renault 14, Talbot Tagora, Volkswagen K70, Fiat Tempra, Hyundai Pony, SEAT Malaga and Škoda Roomster, to name just a few. Ooh, heaven is a place in the Netherlands (with apologies to Belinda Carlisle).

[Quick moment of reflection to allow your mind to wander off in the direction of Ms Carlisle. We get weak, etc.]

Anyway, back to Alex Wakefield, who drove a Perodua Nippa to EMWalhalla as part of a UK convoy of tat. The other cars were a Rover 620ti, Škoda Felicia, Citroën XM and Lexus LS400.

If, like Petrolblog, you missed EMWalhalla 2024, you'll be delighted to discover that Alex has created a video of the journey there and back, along with some of the many highlights of the event (sorry, field day). Spoiler alert: it looks great. Like a Dutch FOTU.

As the horologist said to the customer, It's a delightful watch, so set aside 18 or so minutes to enjoy 'Nippa to the Netherlands'. And don't forget to subscribe to ChodCam. Need more info on EMWalhalla? Alex will be writing a review for issue 29 of Classic.Retro.Modern., which goes on sale on 1 July 2024.

Petrolblog is left with one question: Ooh, baby, do you know what that immaculate Nippa's worth?
