Renault Safrane fails to make Car & Classic top 10

The Renault Safrane has failed to make the Car & Classic list of the most searched-for classic cars in 2022. Other notable absentees include the Proton Impian, Sao Penza and Suzuki Mighty Boy.

Ford remains the most searched-for brand, with the Capri, Cortina and Escort accounting for more than 50 percent of overall Blue Oval searches. Interest in the Mustang is down, but the Fiesta has seen a resurgence.

Triumph, Jaguar, Porsche, Volkswagen, BMW, MG, Land Rover, Rover and Toyota complete the top 10 marque searches, as classic car punters fail to get a grip on Willys or a handle on Holden.

Car & Classic head of editorial and good egg, Chris Pollitt, said the data shows that, “despite the current global economy’s challenges, there continues to be an obvious interest in classic cars.

“It could be due to their dual appeal: never just a hard-nosed investment, classic cars pull at the individual’s heartstrings because of the emotive connection they may carry, as a memory, a piece of history, or simply something which – coveted at a younger age – is finally attainable later in life, when the individual is more financially comfortable.”

Pollitt didn’t go on to say that buyers are missing a trick by failing to fall for the charms of the Renault Safrane or that he expects the French barge to break into the top 10 in 2023.

An unnamed commenter, who may not exist, said: “With just 46 examples of the Safrane on UK roads, now is the time to invest in this comfortable and misunderstood luxury car.

“I fully expect values to rocket in the coming months, so bookmark the relevant page on Car & Classic and refresh hourly to avoid disappointment.”
