Every month, Auto Trader reveals the fastest-selling used cars. The data makes for interesting reading and reveals more about the public's buying habits than the SMMT's new car statistics, which are loaded with pre-registered and fleet vehicles.
It turns out that the nation has surprisingly good taste, because the top ten features some rather Petrolbloggy cars. The list includes the Toyota GT86, Citroën C4 Cactus, MG3 and Renault Mégane estate, not to mention the Kia Carens, a dull but worthy MPV.
There's only one electric SUV, with more traditional body styles and powertrains dominating the top ten. Stick a Kia Ceed estate or Carens on the market today and it'll be gone within 11 days, according to Auto Trader's data.
The news isn't so positive if you want to sell a BMW i5 electric car, as it could take around five months to shift it. With prices ranging from £40,000 to £110,000, that's a lot of cash to be sitting on. A £7k Carens that's only just out of warranty has never looked more appealing.
Check out the Renualt Mégane estates currently for sale on Auto Trader. Sort by age, then raise your eyebrows at the number of white diesels registered in 2021. It looks like a company has just offloaded its entire fleet of cars.
Richard Walker, data and insight director at Auto Trader said: ‘The speed in which used cars are selling is a good barometer of the underlying health of the used car market, and as we fast approach the end of the first quarter of 2025, it’s clear the seasonal slowdown is being left in the rear-view mirror.
‘The Ceed has been a staple of our fastest selling used car lists over the last few years, and it’s not a surprise; it offers great styling and family practicality, and of course Kia’s industry leading seven-year warranty. Car buyers are still attracted by great value and peace of mind, and the fact the Ceed exceeded the current national average by around two weeks, really highlights just how popular it is amongst car buyers.’
