Renault calls it “a new era of service for classic car enthusiasts”, and there's no doubt that the launch of ‘The Originals Renault’ is an exciting move. There's just one problem: it's not available in the UK. Not yet, anyway.
‘The Originals Renault’ offers a range of services for owners of classic and retro cars, including a spare parts search facility, an online library of repair manuals, video tutorials and vehicle verification. It should make it easier to restore and maintain a classic Renault.
Arnaud Belloni, Renault global CMO and chief branding officer for all brands, says: “We are deploying new services developed specifically for enthusiasts and collectors of classic Renault vehicles, allowing them to service, restore and maintain their automotive treasures. It's a way of protecting our shared automotive heritage, so that we can pass it on to future generations.”
He also told Auto Express that it's ”an investment in the cars and the brand; we must be ambitious and look after our legacy. The reference for us is Porsche and Ferrari, because they take care of their collections and [car] owners. This is appreciated by [them] and fans of the brand.
“Our legacy for present and future vehicles only comes from the past. There is no strong brand in the world without a legacy and Renault’s is over 125 years old, so we must look after and protect it.”
Initially, eight certified sites are available in France, with plans to expand to 25 sites across the country by the end of 2025. Renault says the network will gradually expand to other countries in the coming years.
In other words, it'll be a while before ‘The Originals Renault’ makes the hop across la manche. Which is a pity, as Petrolblog could do with some help keeping the Safranes and Mégane on the road!
But let's not be too disheartened. Seeing a brand invest in its heritage is a reason to be cheerful, so hats off to Renault for this positive move. If nothing else, it increases the chances of seeing an old Renault when you're holidaying in France. And let's see more retro-inspired new cars like the 5 E-Tech, 4-Tech and Twingo.
In the meantime, check out ‘The Originals Renault’ website.
