Car Geek Alert: Ullo John! Gotta New Motor?

Published by Gavin Big-Surname at 2nd November 2011
Ullo John Gotta A New Motor

Don’t ask me how I stumbled across this Alexei Sayle ‘classic’ from 1982 as I couldn’t tell you. But it has to be said, the video is a retro and classic car fanatic’s dream. I’ve counted 22 cars that could or should be identified by an avid car geek. Some are easy to spot, but others are a little tricker as either the glimpse is fleeting or the car is masked by something else. After two viewings, I’ve managed to identify 13 definite cars. See if you can do better.

I’ll draw up a list of cars at a later date. In the meantime, I’m off to overuse the pause function on YouTube. Note that all cars appear within the first 2 minutes and 20 seconds of the video.

I apologise in advance if you find yourself singing the song all day tomorrow.

Strewth. That takes me back to when I was a lad. I wonder if any of the cars in the video are still with us.

I wondered the same thing. MK1 Scirocco looks particularly tasty…

If any reg. plates are visible – I’ll have a look later- then DVLA’s database might yield some answers if the car in question hasn’t had a plate change or been exported.

Sadly the cars with reg plates are easy to spot!

Good work! Transit counts, but I wasn’t including the Routemaster!

One at the end, on the left – Renault 16?

Could be but not sure on the round headlight. So which do we think would be worth most now?

Good question. I was going to do a How Many Left? roundup at the end!

I have watched this video a few times to look at the cars featured.

Don’t sing the song in public, or they will “..lock you up in an ‘ospital”!

Another ‘good’ piece of TV history to watch old cars is that awful film ‘Nuns on the Run’. Eighties motors abound in this one!

Ha. You most certainly shouldn’t sing this in public! 😉

That was an atrocious music video. Awful.

    That said – Saab 99 at 2:14?
