Car Transporters

Major Waffle

In this edition of The PetrolBlog Point I'll share confession with you. One which I've harboured for many years and whatever I do, I can't seem to shake it.

Have a look at the image below. What's the first thought that comes into your head?

Empty Car Transporter

For me, the first thought is FUN! Whenever I see one, I have a single overwhelming urge. This urge is to drive up the back of the bloody thing. I mean, what harm could it do? Look at the back of the truck - if that's not an invitation to do an Italian Job style manoeuvre, then I'm not sure what is.

Face it, once the truck has performed its duties and dropped the cars off at their destination, these things usually travel back empty. What a waste. Think of the hours of entertainment they could provide. Points could be awarded for safe entry or speed of approach. Further points could be awarded for maximum time in flight as you launch yourself off the other side. Bonus points awarded per car you clear during the flight. What's not to like about this idea? Missed a junction on the motorway - not a problem. Simply use the truck to launch yourself on to the A-road. No more cases of drivers reversing down the hard shoulder on 'Police Stop Cameras Funniest Things Action...ever'.

And before PetrolBlog is accused of encouraging dangerous and frivolous driving, no-no, not a bit of it. Think what the idea could do to help drivers avoid fatigue. Feeling tired? No worries - drive on to the transporter for fifteen minutes kip. Genius. And best of all, you're still making progress on your journey which means you won't lose that final order for the copier toner you were banking on.

It also helps to avoid congestion as you're taking half a dozen or so cars off the road.

So perhaps one of my overwhelming urges on the road could actually lead to an important piece of motoring legislation. It helps everyone by putting the fun back into driving, cutting down congestion and avoiding driver fatigue.

Get behind PetrolBlog's campaign to make proper use of empty car transporters. You know it makes sense.

Grateful thanks to Ronnie Cameron for the image.
