10 of the best: a celebration of Baby Poo Yellow

Published by Gavin Big-Surname at 24th August 2020
Baby Poo Yellow Honda HR-V

It’s time to celebrate the magnificence of Baby Poo Yellow. When most new cars seem to leave the factory in one of fifty shades of grey, Baby Poo Yellow is a breath of fresh air.

Not that everyone agrees. Back in 2012, Jalopnik named ‘Baby Puke Yellow’ as one of the worst car colours ever offered. While PetrolBlog is a mug of tea at the greasy spoon cafe to Jalopnik’s caramel macchiato at the international coffee shop, I’d politely disagree. The colour deserves more respect.

Lime Yellow, Phoenix Yellow, Exploit Yellow, Brocade Yellow and Helios Yellow – the official colour names steer clear of baby poo and vomit. PetrolBlog’s reader will be all too aware that Claudia Schiffer Yellow is the semi-official name for the BEST COLOUR FOR THE CITROËN XSARA VTS™.

Please observe exhibit A:

It’s fair to say that this particular shade of yellow is of its time. Semi-popular in the 90s and early 00s, the paint option graced everything from humble superminis to exotic performance cars. It was the great leveller. As delightful on a Vauxhall Corsa as it was on a BMW M3.

It should come as no surprise to discover that Baby Poo Yellow was the signature colour for the Honda HR-V and Citroën Xsara Coupe.

More distinctive than standard yellow, this particular shade of yellow could be accused of prospecting into gold territory. This simply shows its diversity and flexibility. The beauty of the United Colours of Baby Poo Yellow. That final reference should ensure PetrolBlog owns the search term on Google. Hello, SEO robots.

Lemon or lime?

Volkswagen Golf Mk8 paint choices

Today, the colour is enjoying something of a renaissance. Take a look at the colour options for the Volkswagen Golf Mk8. Lime Yellow Metallic is the only colour that stands out. Should we be surprised that it’s the colour chosen to showcase the new Golf in its best light? Of course not.

There’s a similar colour available on the BMW X2. Unfortunately, Galvanic Gold does little to improve the car’s aesthetics. Maybe Gaviscon Gold would have been a more appropriate name.

Anyway, without further ado, please enjoy 10 of the best Baby Boo Yellow cars. Remember, it’s just for fun, so please don’t complain if your ‘favourite’ Baby Poo Yellow car doesn’t make the list.

Always thought this was very much of its time: Futuristic, upbeat and daring to be different, much like many of the concept cars of the time and indeed what I perceive was the general feeling in the late ’90s and definitely the ’00s.

I even dare to say that this colour is able to make any car look like a concept car

More yellow Frenchness, that you unfortunately missed in the list.
