I’ve been staring at the blinking cursor for about half an hour, wondering how to mark PetrolBlog’s tenth birthday.
A list of the blog’s ten most popular posts? PetrolBlog’s top ten cars of the past ten years? Ten cars for News at Ten presenters? The ten cars of Tenpole Tudor?
I considered hosting a party, but the fear of nobody turning up put me off. As did the fact that I’m the world’s worst party host. I’m also out of Viennetta and pineapple; no party is complete without cheese and pineapple on sticks.
Instead, I’ve decided to say thank you. If you’ve ever commented on a post or said something nice about PetrolBlog on social media – thanks. If you’ve ever dropped me an email about PetrolBlog – thanks.
Even if you’ve wandered in via a search engine, had a look at one article then left, never to be seen again – thanks. Although you’re unlikely to see this, I do appreciate you being ‘round.
It’s been quite a journey. Ten years ago today, I wrote the first post on what was then called ‘Major Gav’s Petrol Blog’. I didn’t expect it to last ten minutes, let alone ten years. But here it is, still occupying a dusty corner of the internet. File it under the heading ‘quirky and unviable’.
Not my words, but the words of somebody in the industry having seen my words on another site. You can’t please ‘em all.
I’m not going to turn this into a speech of Oscar-winning proportions – not least because I haven’t won an Oscar. Or anything, come to that. But I’ll say thanks for being there and for allowing me to spout a stream of waffle and bunk over the course of a decade.
I’ll leave you with ten cars with a link to the number – some of which are rather, ahem… tenuous. Here’s to the next ten years.
