Shednesday: Volvo S40
This week's Shednesday update is pure gold. Terry's All Gold. Ben loves only gold, etc. He also finds a rare Proton. Good stuff.
Merry Shednesday. Thank you for coming home; sorry that the chairs are all worn; I left them here I could have sworn. These are my salad days; slowly being eaten away. Just another play for today; oh, but I'm proud of you, but I'm proud of you. Nothing left to make me feel small; luck has left me standing so tall.
Gold!
I’ll stop with the lyrics for “Gold” by Spandau Ballet. As an aside: have many songs mentioned salad? Comments below, as I’m genuinely intrigued. Anyway… gold. It’s a car colour I happen to like, although obviously not as much as a certain " target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Goldmember does.
Having not covered many European car brands to date, I feel it's time to feature a Volvo or two. Ideally in gold and, for extra points, under a grand. After all, I have Spendsday for some shameless splurging.
Mmmm, headlight wiper...
Starting cheap like the budgie is this 2002 diesel S40, which is available for £395. It has an MOT until February next year and should have a manual box (if my automotive data sources are correct). It also has a leather interior and a sunroof. It’s done 116,000 miles and is in Wrexham. Most importantly, though, it has headlight wipers!
Practical seats
At the thick end of my self-imposed budget at £995 is this petrol S40. It’s from 2003, has a 1.8-litre engine, manual box and an MOT until March next year. Speaking of its latest MOT, it failed on a lot of things, but those appear to have been remedied.
MOT aside, it also has a part-leather interior, so you won’t slide off the seats when it’s cold, or stick to them when it’s hot. Why do we lust after leather interiors? They seem to be impractical more than anything else. Leather practicalities aside, it’s done 80,000 miles, is in Poole, but it doesn't have headlight wipers. Shame.
Surprise, surprise
Now at this point I would normally hand over to Gavin for comment but I have one more gold(ish) colour car to mention; it’s not a Volvo, or remotely in budget. But it is a Proton Coupé! My work here is done.
What does PetrolBlog think?
He's only gone and done it; a Proton Coupé as I live and breathe. Take the rest of the week off, Ben; your work here is indeed done.
Actually, don't do that, because you're the only person keeping the blog alive at the moment. I thank you for that – normal service will resume soon. Oh, and you're 100 per cent right about leather seats; velour, cloth or wool are preferable, especially on PetrolBlog.
