Car & Classic names its least-wanted cars of March 2023
We asked Car & Classic for a list of the cars you're NOT searching for on its website. The results might surprise you. Hashtag clickbait.
A month ago, Car & Classic released a list of the most searched-for classic cars in 2022. The Ford Escort topped the list, followed by the Porsche 911, Triumph Stag, Jaguar E-type and other evergreen classics you're unlikely to read about on PetrolBlog.
The absence of the Renault Safrane and other PetrolBloggy cars gave us an idea: would Car & Classic be prepared to name the least searched-for classics on its website? Well, hats off to the team at C&C, because we have a list of the least-wanted cars of March 2023.
There are one or two surprises, including the E30 BMW 325i, which tops the least-wanted list, despite the 3 Series being ranked fourth on Car & Classic's list of the top model searches.
We understand that most searches were for the E30, with Chris Pollitt, Car & Classic head of editorial, commenting: “The E30 allure even overcomes the model not being exempt from Clean Air Zones and ULEZ charges. “Original, low-mileage cars with good history continue to draw attention and will command a premium. As the E30 M3s become increasingly out of reach, alternatives will be sought. For example, BMW 316s are good starter classics, demanding low maintenance and still securing a fun driving experience. E46 model prices continue to rise, in the wake of E30 models’ popularity.”
Another surprise inclusion is the Audi 100 Coupé S, which could prove that classic car fans don't know a beautiful car when they see one. And what on earth is the Mk2 Golf GTI doing on the list, rubbing shoulders with the Jaguar XJ220? Is the figure skewed by the ‘Mk2’ element?
Whatever, PetrolBlog is encouraged by the absence of the Renault Safrane? Does this mean that it's more desirable than the XJ220 and Volvo 740, or were there literally no searches for the car in March 2023? Answers on a postcard to the usual address. Big thanks to Car & Classic for indulging PetrolBlog with the request. Can we make this a regular thing?
