Shednesday: A plethora of Proton cars

Published by Ben Carter at 17th March 2021
Proton Cars

Merry Shednesday. This week I am going all ‘Arthur Jeffries’ and getting my Proton on. In stark contrast to previous entries, I will suggest a bevy of different options, each one categorised as a Spice Girl.

You could interpret my groupings as a nod to girl power and the recent International Women’s Day, but really it’s just my lunatic brain trying to think of a way to group all these beauties. So if you were wondering how to fritter all the money you’ve saved from not being able to do fun things, look no further than these Proton cars.

Sporty Spice

Proton Satria GTI for sale

Slightly more than shed money at £1500, the sporty option is a 2002 Satria GTI with 111,000 miles on the clock and an MOT.

Baby Spice

Proton Satria Sport for sale

This is 29 Acacia Road. Okay, it’s actually Pontypridd in South Wales. With only 23,000 miles on the clock, the ‘baby’ (banana) is a £1499 Satria Lux Sport. It has an auto box, GTI styling and a Bananaman yellow paint job.

Scary Spice

Proton Compact for sale

For the rally enthusiast there is a £1100 1998 Compact with a host of rally upgrades. Or, if you genuinely are a Spice Girl, or have come into some money, and you have a spare £18k then there is also a rally-ready Proton Satria available.

Ginger Spice

Proton Jumbuck for sale

While lacking a Union Jack dress, this £1500 red Jumbuck does have the best rear end sticker this side of the 1980s. Or if you prefer something in green and have a penchant for the modified look, then perhaps you’d prefer to spend a lot more money on this 2004 Jumbuck/Lancer Evo mash-up?

Or for £2000 (or £1800 if you see the equivalent Gumtree ad) you can have a Jumbuck with a GTI engine and faux rust paint. A Proton Jumbuck GTI was featured on PetrolBlog – ed.

Old Spice

Proton Iswara for sale

Need something more boxy and retro? Look no further than this £800 1992 Proton Iswara. It also has an MOT.

I have more than exceeded my word limit and am all Protoned out, so time to hand over to our very own Posh Spice to pick his favourite of the five Proton cars and undoubtedly mention the missing Coupe.

What does PetrolBlog think?

Our cup runneth over with Proton cars goodness. Finding a Proton Coupe is nigh on impossible, so Ben’s ‘failure’ to source one for this week’s Shednesday update is totally understandable. It’s not as though he hasn’t blessed us with a bevy of Malaysian beauties, or something.

PetrolBlog had plans to add a Proton to the fleet in 2020, but lockdown kind of got in the way. Not this prevented the arrival of the ‘beer money’ Safrane and Range Rover P38. Anyway, a Satria GTI would be the obvious choice of Ben’s famous five, but the ‘Diet Coke’ Satria Sport is strangely appealing.

Oh, and a BIG thank you to Ben for keeping the home fires burning while the editor is absent without leave. You can’t get the staff these days. Cheers Ben!

A great selection there Other Ben (what is it with Ben’s and Tat?)

Have to say that I think the MPI (Iswara) takes my pick due to the lovely bodykit, followed by the Satria GTi, though those wheels don’t look original.

It’s a bit like ordering a cheese platter for dessert and only having enough stomach room left for your favourites…
