Ton Dumans writes: Petrolheads, Porsche and Police

Ton Dumans is back, so that can only mean two things. First of all, this post is going to be about Porsches. Second of all, despite the previous claim, this post won’t be very much about cars at all. Remember, you can follow Ton on twitter @Tonsty.

Everyone who knows me even just a little bit, knows that I am into Porsches and that I have been for as long as they can remember. Most people accept this as a fact (hey, we all have our limitations, right?), whilst others tend to wonder why. Of all the cars in the world, why Porsche, and how come I already loved them when I was barely out of nappies? Read more »

The Final Car

On the Beach is a post-apocalyptic novel by Nevil Shute. In it, Shute charts the final days of folk living in Melbourne, Australia – one of the last places on earth to remain free of radiation poisoning. Life in the northern hemisphere has been all but obliterated and it’s only a matter of time before the entire southern hemisphere suffers the same fate. It’s an immensely terrifying and heartbreaking book to read as Shute delves deep into the personal lives of the last few people on earth who witness the end of civilisation. Read more »

Ton’s Real World Dream Barn

PetrolBlog’s Dutch correspondent flies over with details of his Real World Dream Barn. He’s clearly not afraid to bend the rules a little!

As you may or may not have not have read in my bio, for as long as I can remember, I’m not really much of petrol head, but all the more a Porsche head. So when thinking about a Real World Dream Barn, I could easily fill the whole list with ten Porsches and be perfectly happy. Or just buy a 959 and be done. Read more »

MIchelin Pilot Performance Day, Estoril 2011

PetrolBlog at the Michelin Pilot Performance Day, Estoril

Day one in Portugal was a rather gentile affair. A leisurely stroll around the streets of Lisbon, a quick stopover in a café for a taste of some Portuguese tarts and then a short coach trip along the coast to the hotel. All things considered, it was a rather pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

Day two in Portugal was an altogether different experience. Pleasant wouldn’t be an accurate way to describe it. Pick anything from exhilarating, momentous, awesome and mind blowing and you might be closer to the mark. Allow me to explain. Read more »

Purple days: Porsche 968 Sport

It’s funny how things work out. One minute I’m trying to make up my mind which member of the PetrolBlog Fleet should accompany me to Goodwood, then the next minute I’ve been offered a Porsche for a day. This was thanks to Porsche specialist, Adrian Crawford, who made the kind offer and told me he could supply “something suitably retro” for my trip to the Festival of Speed. So I immediately considered two things, the first being whether or not I should cancel my trip to Goodwood and simply spend the entire time driving a Porsche on my favourite roads. But then, remembering I had a date with a certain Volvo C30, I came to my senses and turned my attention to the other consideration – exactly what Porsche would I be taking custody of? Read more »

Fahrtman Longstroke rants: Porsche 911

Introducing Fahrtman Longstroke, PetrolBlog’s new guest blogger. Longstroke promises to deliver a unique and honest view of the motoring industry, or at least that’s what he promised in his email! If this opening blog is anything to go by, he’s sure to ruffle a few feathers and he’s not afraid of telling it how it is. Needless to say his views are his own and not necessary those of PetrolBlog. Much. Over to you Longstroke… Read more »

PetrolBlog’s Real World Dream Barn

You may have arrived here following my potentially shocking confession about supercars. If you didn’t, can I politely suggest you have a read of it first?

My super cars aren’t supercars

But having confessed that a lottery win wouldn’t see me searching for a copy of What Supercar? magazine, I thought it only fair to name and shame the contents of my own Real World Dream Barn. Remember, ten cars and a maximum budget of £30k for each. Anything left over can be used for fuel or the inevitable ongoing maintenance and breakdown cover. Read more »

Michelin Man Silverstone PetrolBlog

Lessons from the Michelin Man

When the lovely people at Michelin Tyres asked me if I’d like to join them for a day at the Porsche Experience at Silverstone, it took all my willpower not to reply with a simple, “does the Pope poo in the woods?“, but instead I responded in a much more civilised manner. But “Hell Yeah” would sum it up pretty well. Read more »
