Rob writes: No animals were harmed

Resident guest blogger extraordinaire, Rob Griggs-Taylor has bought a new car. And where better than PetrolBlog to tell the world all about it. Over to you, Rob.

Since the time of Adam man has been a hunter. To provide food for himself and his family the man would roam armed with spears, clubs and axes, searching for animals to kill and drag home. The more exotic the animal, the more admiration from the others in the tribe. A bear would be great, or a lion perhaps. Something exotic and cool. Read more »

Ask MajorGav and then take a SEAT

Back in November 2011, PetrolBlog was contacted by drummer Sam Jones who was looking for a new car. He wanted some advice and so we helpfully put together a list of ten potential cars that suited his ‘fun for £1,500′ criteria. At PetrolBlog, we’re the last people to blow our own trumpets, but we must say we were rather pleased with the shortlist.

Well clearly Sam prefers the sound of drums to trumpets, as he promptly ignored the advice and bought a SEAT Leon! Sensible chap. Read more »

Ask MajorGav: Sam bangs the drums

PetrolBlog has been contacted by a reader looking for advice on what car to buy next. So when the Audi and Citroen developed temporary faults, I was presented with the perfect excuse to look for a ‘PetrolBlog Shed’. More petrolhead logic perhaps, but like we need an excuse to buy another car. Besides, this is public service at work here.

Buying and selling cars: Petrolhead logic

To most people, buying and selling cars is a straightforward and rational procedure. A decision to buy or sell is probably driven by either a change in lifestyle, financial loss or gain or the simple fact that the current car is broken. When buying a car, a shortlist is drawn up, a means of payment is agreed and the car is bought. Simple. As long as the car is reliable and does everything is expected to do, then no more is thought of it. The whole process is completed with about the same level of emotion as you’d expect when buying a sofa or a new fridge freezer. Read more »

L@@K! PetrolBlog’s guide to buying a car on eBay

Buying a car on eBay is a risky business. More often than not you have to trust the seller’s description and take a leap of faith that the car in question is a good’un. For sure, there’s a get-out clause should you find out that the car fails to match the description, but that’s normally after a long and expensive journey on a train. Or worse still, after you’ve had the car delivered by Shiply. Read more »
