Goodness, is that the time? In what seems like the blink of an eye, PetrolBlog has reached its sixth birthday. Soon it will be packing its satchel, grabbing an apple for the teacher and heading off for its first day at school.
Time flies when you’re having fun. It’s hard to believe that from a tiny acorn, PetrolBlog has grown to become one of the biggest and most authoritative motoring websites in the entire world. So hard to believe, in fact, that’s it’s not true. But hey, PB has established a niche. And niche is good.
February 18th 2010 was the day PetrolBlog decided to dip its toe in the icy online water, only to discover it wasn’t that cold after all. Back then it was called ‘MajorGav’s Petrol Blog’, but this was soon shortened to PetrolBlog, once we discovered we didn’t have enough Dymo tape for the sign above the lock-up garage.
It all started with a throwaway piece on signs that you’re an obsessive petrolhead and then it kind of spiralled out of control. Now there’s no getting rid of PB. Sorry, it’s here to stay.
How will we celebrate reaching this momentous milestone? Well a supper consisting of jelly and ice cream is a given and we may even push the boat out and buy a Wall’s Viennetta. But before that, we’re meeting up with some of our biggest fans at the local Berni Inn for a three-course meal consisting of prawn cocktail, gammon steak and Black Forest gateaux. Yes, we know how to live.
Thanks to the generosity of the UK’s automotive press offices, we’ve also been sent a selection of 6-themed press cars, so we’ll be taking them for a trip along the promenade later. We may even nip into the amusement arcade to indulge in some classic Chase HQ action, if we get the time.
All that remains to be said is a big thank you to PB’s loyal readers. Yes, both of you. It’s good to know there are other people out there for whom an old Japanese saloon holds more appeal than a multi-million dollar supercar and can get genuine joy out of a French car from the 1990s. Seriously, thank you for reading and for sticking around.
Here are the cars we’ve gathered to help celebrate PB’s sixth birthday. Needless to say, they ooze six appeal.
See you on the prom’.
