Honda’s Jazzy Type-R
The Type-R badge is held in high esteem by petrolheads. Any Honda adorned with the simple five letters is guaranteed to set the pulse racing and provide a suitable amount of B-road thrills. A Type-R badge can indeed turn a humble and worthy Accord saloon into something of a road racer. There’s the Integra, which for many people is the ultimate FWD drivers’ car. The supercar Type-R comes in the form of the NSX and let’s not forget the most popular model, the Civic.
But I’ve always fancied a fun size Type-R. A small city car very much in the mould of my old Avanazto. How about the Jazz for example? Dependable, reliable and if I’m not mistaken, never driven above speeds of more than 28 mph. The perfect candidate for a full Type-R makeover.
Sadly, Honda hasn’t, as yet, made a Jazz Type-R.
Or have they? Spotted languishing in the classifieds is what I believe to be the world’s only Jazz Type-R. See how the radio has been stripped out to save weight. Notice the hole on the boot to increase cooling. Lightweight wheels and bespoke sun visor are the only other clues to this car’s identity. Oh and the single Type-R badge on the back of course.
At £550 this has to be the world’s cheapest Type-R. You’ll be an instant hit at the clubs when you walk in with your Type-R keyring. If you pick up a lady, don’t worry – it’ll be dark when you leave the club and she’ll never know that she’s not being escorted home in a Civic. Just don’t be expecting to play any happening tunes on the way home – there’s no wireless.
Regular readers of PetrolBlog will know I’m not a fan of fake Badgers. But in this case, I do see the funny side. There’s even a part of me that thinks that at £500, this would make for an interesting and rather fun little winter toy!

Interesting article! I almost forgot about this model of Honda Jazz.
I live in Scotland and there is a small island on the west coast called Rothesay. On this island, a B-registered example exactly like the one in the pictures used to be seen regularly driving around. This was the only Jazz of this type i have ever seen. Last time I saw was probably in 2010. I think it had about 25000 miles on it. It’s really unbelievable how small one of these cars actually is until you see it in the flesh!
PS maybe the hole in the tailgate is where you insert the key to wind it up! It’s a clockwork car!
