Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet

PetrolBlog isn’t at the LA Motor Show. And on the basis of what I’ve just seen from Nissan, I’m delighted to be here in Blighty. For Nissan has just revealed what they say is “the world’s first all-wheel drive crossover convertible, the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet“. Two things strike me here. Firstly, has anyone actually asked for a CrossCabriolet? And secondly, who on earth is going to buy it? Surely this is a niche too far? Read more »

Dawn Raid! Suzuki Swift Sport

Reading the spec sheet for the Suzuki Swift Sport, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d been transported back to the Eighties. As hot hatches go, a 1.6 litre normally aspirated engine developing 123 bhp and a 0-60 time of just under nine seconds is hardly headline writing stuff. Back in the day, the Swift Sport would have been tempting buyers away from the likes of Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot and Volkswagen. Read more »

Honda Jazz Type-R

Honda’s Jazzy Type-R

The Type-R badge is held in high esteem by petrolheads. Any Honda adorned with the simple five letters is guaranteed to set the pulse racing and provide a suitable amount of B-road thrills. A Type-R badge can indeed turn a humble and worthy Accord saloon into something of a road racer. There’s the Integra, which for many people is the ultimate FWD drivers’ car. The supercar Type-R comes in the form of the NSX and let’s not forget the most popular model, the Civic. Read more »

Michelin Man Silverstone PetrolBlog

Lessons from the Michelin Man

When the lovely people at Michelin Tyres asked me if I’d like to join them for a day at the Porsche Experience at Silverstone, it took all my willpower not to reply with a simple, “does the Pope poo in the woods?“, but instead I responded in a much more civilised manner. But “Hell Yeah” would sum it up pretty well. Read more »

Skoda Fabia vRS: Less batty, more evil

Skoda has unveiled a brilliant new Fabia vRS TV ad which takes the original ‘cakes’ concept and slams it into the middle of next week. Julie Andrews has gone and has been replaced by a menacing Goth-like soundtrack. With snakes, vultures and pierced gentlemen, the overall effect is less ‘Sound of Music’ and more ‘Hell’s Kitchen’.
